About Against the Storm
Against the Storm is a roguelike city builder where every settlement is a fresh challenge in a world that never stops raining. You act as a viceroy for the Smoldering City, founding woodland settlements that must be completed before the queen's impatience meter runs out. Resources are procedurally generated each run, and you juggle food, fuel, housing, and the needs of up to five species of fantasy workers, each with its own preferences and perks. The roguelike loop keeps things fresh: failed or completed settlements feed into a meta-progression of upgrades, and a prestige system raises the difficulty for veteran players. It is a rare combination — the relaxing pace of a city builder with the tension and replayability of a roguelike — and it won the 2023 indie strategy scene over with its smart design and gorgeous hand-drawn art.
